Negative Pressure Wound Therapy for Pressure Ulcer: Effect on Outcomes and Utilization Using Real-World Data

An OMNY Health™ Poster

The efficacy and cost-effectiveness of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) are not well understood.

On May 17-21, 2021, this poster was presented at the ISPOR Annual Conference.

Discussion:

  • No notable positive effects of NPWT on pressure ulcer (PU) outcomes or utilization were observed even after adjusting for underlying differences.
  • Residual confounding by indication could be a possible explanation for the observed associations between NPWT and PU outcomes and utilization.
  • Further research is needed to examine longer-term differences in outcomes such as readmission rates and to evaluate drivers of cost difference.
