Transcatheter and Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement: Patient Characteristics and Outcomes

An OMNY Health™ Poster

While the traditional procedural treatment for AVSI is surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as a popular alternative because it is less invasive and more suitable for patients at greater risk for post-surgical complications.

On August 23 – August 25, 2021, this poster was on display at ICPE 2021

Conclusions:

  • These results help provide insights into which factors are associated with the receipt of TAVR vs. SAVR in the real-world hospital setting.
  • After adjusting for baseline characteristics, no notable differences in death, AF, or ABE were observed between TAVR and SAVR cohorts. However, the lack of overlap in patient characteristics between cohorts resulted in a low effective sample sizes, which makes it difficult to detect meaningful differences if they truly existed.
  • Additional analyses with an amplified number of patients in the common support region would be needed to provide further insights into the relative safety of these procedures
